Illinois will see a total eclipse of the Sun on April 8, 2024. Totality will be in the state’s southern area, which will include the cities of Carbondale, Metropolis, and Mt Carmel, to name a few. Carbondale will have the maximum length of darkness, lasting 4 minutes and 8 seconds.

The next total eclipse of the Sun for Illinois will be on September 14, 2099, in the state’s upper-right corner. (See map below.)

The next total eclipse of the Sun for Carbondale will be in the year 2744!
